ACL has been moving our customers' cargo on the inland waterways since 1915, when we began transporting coal on the Kentucky River.  We have since grown into one of the largest and most diversified marine transportation services companies in the nation.  With a fleet of approximately 2,400 barges, powered by 110 towboats, ACL is the nation's second largest liquid cargo barge line and the third largest dry cargo barge line. 

Headquartered in Jeffersonville, IN, ACL is powered by approximately 2,400 employees througout its inland waterways network.  Our Transportation Services unit has a Northern Division Headquarters in Cairo, IL, and a Southern Division Headquarters in Harahan, LA.  Our manufacturing division, Jeffboat, is located on the Ohio River in Jeffersonville, IN. 

In December 2010, ACL was purchased by Platinum Equity, a global acquisiton firm headquartered in Los Angeles that specializes in mergers, acquisitions, and operations of companies that provide mission-critical products, services, and solutions in diverse industries.  With the extensive resources and operational expertise of Platinum Equity, ACL is accelerating the execurtion of our strategic business initiatives, moving full speed ahead on course for the future.
